Brazilian President Lula Undergoes Surgery for Intracranial Hemorrhage

Brazil’s president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, is preparing for a scheduled medical intervention to prevent complications after his recent health episode.

On Thursday, Lula will undergo a procedure called “embolization of the meningeal artery,” a low-risk technique that aims to minimize the potential for future intracranial hemorrhages. The news was confirmed by the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in São Paulo, where the president has been receiving care.

The intervention is part of the treatment that Lula has been following since he suffered an intracranial hemorrhage as a result of a fall that occurred on October 19 at the Palácio da Alvorada.

During that incident, the president hit his head, leading to a pre-operative procedure to drain a hematoma.

In this context, Doctor Roberto Kalil, who is responsible for his medical care, explained that the new procedure is relatively simple and will be performed under anesthesia, lasting approximately one hour.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, recent medical bulletins have been encouraging. Lula is in intensive care but has shown positive progress: he is lucid, oriented, and has been able to perform activities such as physiotherapy and receive family visits.

The hospital has stressed that there have been no incidents during his recovery and that the president’s health remains stable.

Lula’s situation raises questions about how his health could influence the Brazilian political landscape. Since his return to power in January 2023, the president has faced several challenges both internally and externally. The continuity of his leadership will depend, in part, on his ability to fully recover and resume his functions smoothly.

The president’s health is not only a personal matter but also a determining factor in the current political dynamics of Brazil.
